What is cosmetic Microneedling?

Cosmetic Microneedling is a gentle, non-invasive treatment.

After thorough skin preparation, sterile, precision needle modules are used. The fine needles briefly and evenly perforate the uppermost skin layer at a frequency of 120 oscillations per second, ensuring optimal substance penetration. This allows selected active ingredients to be delivered exactly where they can achieve the best possible results.

At the same time, the non-invasive perforation of the uppermost skin layer activates all skin functions, increases blood circulation and stimulates the skin's natural regeneration.

The concluding intensive massage with a special, hygienically packed massage module loosens tense facial muscles and tissue and further enhances active ingredient uptake.

How does the skin react to the Microneedling Treatment?

The skin reacts immediately to the Microneedling Treatment with moderate to intense redness, similar to sunburn. A burning sensation and slight swelling is also a completely normal or even desired skin reaction, which subsides after 1–2 days at the latest.

Once the redness has subsided, a slight crust may form in individual cases on areas of skin that were treated particularly intensively. This too is an entirely intended and is part of the skin's healing process.

Contraindications

The following contraindications and side effects result from a careful analysis of the clinical literature for Microneedling treatments.

If there is even the slightest doubt that the client's safety cannot be guaranteed, for example due to concurrent illnesses, the treatment must not be carried out and medical advice must be obtained first.

Even though cosmetic Microneedling is a non-invasive method, BABOR recommends that the following contraindications be observed in the interests of the greatest possible client safety:

The use of Microneedling is generally contraindicated in the following cases:

- Hemophilia / blood clotting disorders

- Uncontrolled diabetes mellitus

- Treatment of skin areas with dermatoses, e.g. skin tumors, eczema, exanthema, open wounds, keloids (or in cases of extreme predisposition to keloid formation), solar keratosis, warts, alopecia areata, vitiligo, melasma and moles

- Long-term use of cortisone, Marcumar, glucocorticoids, warfarin, heparin, salicylic acid, aspirin or other blood-thinning medication

- Chronic inflammatory skin conditions, such as neurodermatitis, psoriasis

- Cancers and malignant tumors

- Epilepsy

- Heart disease

- Vascular diseases

- Circulatory disorders

Microneedling is temporarily contraindicated in the following cases, until normal health has been restored:

- Acute use of blood-thinning agents, e.g. warfarin, heparin, salicylic acid

- Use of anti-acne medication containing isotretinoin

- Systemic infections (e.g. hepatitis or HIV), febrile infections, tuberculosis or acute local skin infections (e.g. with herpes viruses)

- Acute conjunctivitis

- Acute chemotherapy, radiotherapy or high-dose corticosteroid therapy, from 4 weeks before the start until 4 weeks after the end of therapy

- Pregnancy or breastfeeding

- Under the influence of alcohol or drugs

In the following cases, these are temporary, locally limited contraindications:

- Skin areas after plastic surgery or filler injections, injections

→ after consultation with the attending physician

- Skin areas after laser hair removal treatments within the last 2 weeks

- Skin areas after chemical peeling or skin peeling treatment within the last 8 weeks

Side effects

Allergic reactions to the cosmetic products used may occur during MICRONEEDLING treatment. No further complications are known.

The treatment must be stopped immediately in the case of:

- excessive pain

- excessive leakage of wound fluids

- fainting / dizziness

What should be considered after the Microneedling Treatment?
The skin needs 2–3 days to regenerate after the treatment. Optimal treatment success is achieved if additional stimuli are avoided during this time, such as: - exposure to the sun or a solarium - Self-tanner - heavy sweating (sauna visits) - Swimming pool visits - abrasive or chemical peels - Hair removal on the treated areas In addition, on the day of the Microneedling Treatment and for 2–3 days afterwards, avoid touching the face with the hands unnecessarily. Under no circumstances should any crust that has formed be scratched off prematurely. During a MICRONEEDLING treatment course, sun protection with a very high SPF must be worn during the day. Even after the course has ended, sun protection should continue to be worn during the day for a further 2–3 weeks.
Post-application care routine
As a rule, all skin reactions will have subsided within 1–2 days after the treatment at the latest. To avoid additional stress on the skin, we recommend using skincare products without fragrance, for example from the DOCTOR BABOR PRO Line, as follows for aftercare at home:

The skincare routine should be tailored individually to the skin condition and skincare goal, in order to optimally support the skin regeneration that has been initiated. We recommend using the VITAMIN B CALMING SERUM morning and evening for up to 3 days after the MICRONEEDLING treatment. Once all redness and tightness have subsided, the evening routine can switch earlier to PRO Serum and cream according to the skincare goal. We recommend using products containing vitamin C or retinol for aftercare at home only from day 4, once it has been ensured that skin redness and tightness have completely disappeared.

- Babor Derma Precision Microneedling Pen devices may only be used by trained professionals.

- To protect against cross-contamination, the operator must wear hygiene gloves.

- The entire device and the handpiece must be wiped with a soft cloth soaked in a cleaning disinfectant before use.

- The treatment must be carried out in a room suitable for cosmetic treatments. Local regulations on workplace design must be observed.

- Attention: Microneedling needle modules are sterile disposable products (consumables) and may only be used once! Individually packaged Microneedling massage modules may also only be used once!

- Microneedling needle modules may only be used in a sterile condition. The sterility of the Microneedling needle modules is only guaranteed if the packaging is undamaged.

- When inserting the Microneedling needle module into the handpiece, care must be taken not to touch the front area (needle plate). During application as well, ensure that the needle module does not accidentally come into contact with contaminated objects, e.g., clothing. Contaminated Microneedling needle modules must be replaced immediately.

- Never touch the needle plate or needle tips while the handpiece is switched on – risk of injury!

- With the working cap correctly fitted, no needles should be visible at an intensity of 0. Defective needle modules must be replaced immediately and with special care – risk of injury!

- Attention: Injury with a contaminated needle may result in the transmission of dangerous diseases. In such cases, a doctor must be consulted immediately.

- Any consumables may only be used before their expiration date. Proper storage must be observed.

- After the expiration date or after single use, Microneedling needle modules must be disposed of as clinical waste in suitable special containers (safety box). Local disposal regulations must be observed. Under no circumstances should individual modules be disposed of in household waste (risk of infection to third parties)!

- Contamination of the handpiece by product residue flowing back must be checked regularly. If contamination occurs, operation must be stopped and an appropriate cleaning and disinfection procedure carried out (see technical operating manual).

- The separate instructions on device disinfection must also be observed.

Which modules are available?

Babor Microneedling uses sterilely packaged disposable modules for needling and hygienically packaged disposable modules for the final massage.

What is the advantage of a row arrangement of the needles?

The precise row arrangement of the 10 ultra-fine needles prevents the so-called fakir effect in microneedling.

The fakir effect describes the principle of pressure.

If the needles are arranged in a circle on the needle plate, for example, the weight is distributed across the entire surface of all needle tips. As a result, the pressure is often too spread out and not strong enough to penetrate the skin evenly, in a controlled way and deeply enough. The skin is pressed in at the surface rather than actually being penetrated by the needles.

The row arrangement perforates the uppermost skin layer very precisely, evenly and at the same time particularly gently and with little pain, without risking tears or scratches. Downtime after microneedling is thereby reduced to a minimum.

Due to the width of the needle modules, a larger skin area can be covered with each treatment pass; application is therefore significantly simpler, more even and more time-efficient – without any loss of efficacy in the result.

Adjusting the Massage intensity

Individual control of the massage intensity is not required.

Due to the soft, flexible material and elasticity of the Massage module, the module adapts optimally to the skin surface and to every contour of the face during the massage.

Adjusting the Microneedling intensity

The intensity of the Babor Microneedling treatment can be adjusted steplessly on the handpiece using the scale values 0–5.

To do so, turn the black adjustment ring on the handpiece to the left to increase the intensity and to the right to reduce it. The number framed by the indicator sticks shows the scale value and thus the respective working intensity.

Remember: the higher the scale value, the more intensely the needles perforate the epidermis and the more intensive the treatment.

To start the treatment, proceed as follows:

1. Insert the needle module into the handpiece.

2. Start the device.

3. Use the black adjustment ring on the handpiece to select a very gentle to gentle working intensity of 1–2, and begin the treatment on the chin.

4. Check the working intensity by the degree of redness that develops spontaneously, and ask the client for feedback. If the starting setting is well tolerated by the skin and the client, the working intensity can be increased step by step. The intensity of the treatment is ideal when the skin turns visibly red immediately and the client tolerates the treatment well.

Guideline values for setting the Microneedling intensity
The following recruitment recommendations are always only standardized guideline values. If the skin reacts with bleeding at the selected setting, choose a gentler setting.

Note! The areas shown above indicate, through their colors, the recommended working intensities for the areas to be treated. More pronounced lines and fine wrinkles should always be treated at the gentlest level using the eraser technique.

Treatment technique with the needle module

1. Positioning of the client

The client's head is positioned for the treatment of each facial area so that optimal working conditions are achieved.

2. Handpiece guidance

In principle, work with slow (1–2 cm per second), concentrated strokes without pressure, first from the center of the face outwards, then perpendicular to the original direction upwards, creating a checkerboard pattern.

The skin is stretched with the index and middle fingers of the free hand from the point where the handpiece is placed. This point is marked with a white dot in the application diagrams below. Work then proceeds away from the placed fingers, not towards them.

At the end of each stroke, lift the handpiece off the skin and place it again above the previous starting point; the next stroke is performed with slight overlap, so that an even treatment result is achieved.

When working, keep the handpiece as perpendicular as possible and follow the contours of the face.

Always treat each facial area directly one after the other on the right and left side to achieve a very even result. Do not skip any areas of skin unless this is intended, for example because there is a locally limited irritation or contraindication in that area.

If possible: treat the right side with the right hand and the left side with the left hand!

On more pronounced lines/fine wrinkles, the eraser technique can be applied. Here, work back and forth in slow, concentrated strokes. Depending on the treatment goal, skin thickness and skin condition, each stroke may be performed 2–4 times – always pay attention to the individual skin sensitivity.

Caution:

- Always work with a slight overlap to achieve an even result.

- Always ensure the skin is supplied with sufficient active ingredient serum; never work on dry skin!

Finally, check the overall result and re-treat skin areas that do not yet appear intensively activated.

Additionally, depending on the treatment objective, re-treat selected problem zones/folds more intensively.

first right, then left

2.	vertical 	From the collarbone upwards to the transition to the face; for this, let the head extend slightly upwards in a side-lying position
	In the area of the collarbone, move the skin upwards in both working directions. The larynx area can be included by moving the skin backwards in both working directions.

Finally, check the overall result and re-treat skin areas that do not yet appear intensively activated.

first right, then left
1.	horizontal 	Stretch the skin downwards by pulling it down and work the décolleté from the sternum in the middle in horizontal strips to the shoulder joint. Work from the bottom upwards
2.	vertical 	From the top of the chest to the collarbone
	In the area of the collarbone, move the skin downwards in both working directions.
3.	eraser technique 	Treat pronounced décolleté wrinkles and the breast fold more intensively with slight zigzag movements of the handpiece.

Finally, check the overall result and re-treat skin areas that do not yet appear intensively activated.

	Treatment technique with the Massage module
	Screw the Massage module onto the handpiece and treat the areas previously treated with the Microneedling needle module using spiral upward and downward movements. Lightly stretch the skin by moving individual areas of skin, or build up additional skin tension through correct head positioning. Always treat each section directly one after the other on the left and right side. If possible: treat the right side with the right hand, the left side with the left hand.

Procedures
Maximum results with Microneedling treatments are always achieved by completing a full treatment course of approx. 6 treatments at intervals of 14–21 days each with suitable home care products. Of course, individual treatments, partial treatments or reduced treatment course are also possible.

Microdermabrasion & Microneedling

A moderately performed microdermabrasion immediately before Microneedling can significantly enhance treatment results.

Mechanically removing the uppermost stratum corneum through microdermabrasion can significantly increase the skin's absorption capacity. In addition, skin resistance with regard to needle perforation is reduced; the needles can penetrate the upper stratum corneum more freely and deeply, thereby stimulating a maximum regeneration boost of the skin.

This application requires an additional PROFESSIONAL Training!

Performing Microdermabrasion & Microneedling

All application and safety instructions as well as care and treatment plan recommendations remain valid when combining microneedling with a prior microdermabrasion, as described above.

For all combinations of microdermabrasion and microneedling, the regimen of the Microneedling Treatment must be strictly followed in order to avoid skin overreactions. (see page x)

Please note the following:

- To prepare for Microneedling, microdermabrasion is performed only very gently/moderately, in order to avoid skin redness and irritation as far as possible.

- Crystal residues must be removed completely and particularly carefully after Microneedling, so that no crystals are needled into the skin. We recommend using a magnifying lamp for verification.

- As the microdermabrasion performed beforehand reduces the stratum corneum and thus the resistance at the skin surface, a lower penetration depth may be selected if necessary.
